Our Mission is to be a local food finding resource to Southeastern Indiana Hoosiers, to support Indiana Farmers and to educate others about local food.
We want to see Indiana dollars stay in Indiana! It’s better for our state and local economy.
How It Began
Real Food Southeastern Indiana was created by Amanda, a wife, mom and lifelong Hoosier.
On December 30,2014, Amanda started a Facebook Group by the same name of this website. She wanted to connect families like hers, who were seeking real, local food, with the farmers growing it.
The Facebook group was largely created out of the frustration Amanda felt while searching for local food. There was a farmer’s website here and a growers association Facebook page there, but there wasn’t a single website to be found that listed all these local food resources together.
So she created Real Food Southeastern Indiana the Facebook group, with the hopes it would serve as a local food directory and online community of Southeastern Indiana residents seeking local food.
In just a few weeks, in the dead of winter, the Facebook group had grown to over 500 members! Everyone began sharing information and soon, people started making sales right there on the groups wall.
As the Facebook groups files grew larger, it became clear that the information in this group was turning into a valuable resource for Southeastern Indiana. This inspired Amanda to build a website, so that anyone with an internet connection in Southeastern Indiana (not just those who use Facebook) could benefit from the information that had been gathered.
So she purchased web hosting and a .com and that’s how Real Food Southeastern Indiana was born.
